Stress and Modern Day Living

What is stress?
Stress is defined as a condition that harms the body or damages, breaks down, or causes death of few or many cells. Stress is a syndrome, a combination of different symptoms and contributing causes and resulting effects.

Does stress affect everyone similarly?
No. Genetic differences make some people more susceptible too certain stressors than others. Our personal fitness, nutrition and relationships all play a role in managing stress.

Note: Often as the stress you are under increases, your ability to recognise it often decreases. Have friends and family raised their concerns, but you have chosen in the past, to avoid or deny their well meaning comments?

What causes stress?
Different causes of stress – heat, cold, noise, overexertion, mental and emotional stress, injury, sensory overload, toxic chemicals, x-rays and other radiation, deprivation of food or love, over eating and even pregnancy – produce a common set of response symptoms.
